… And the Great Loop Begins!

After a 10 day delay due to Rick’s illness and inclement weather, this cool and beautiful Michigan Fall morning we embarked on our Great Loop voyage! We left Yacht Basin Marina around 9:00 AM, passed through the Holland channel, honked our airhorns to greet good friend Rose near Laketown Beach, and set a compass course for the Hammond, Indiana marina.

On Day One of our Great Loop adventure, we averaged 18 miles an hour and Lake Michigan was quite smooth. We arrived at the Hammond marina mid-afternoon and tied up for the night with  good help from other Loopers moored down the dock.  We plan to enter the Calumet River ship channel tomorrow because R&R is too tall to fit under the Chicago River bridges.  We met three other couples who plan to enter the rivers in the next few days. We will probably see them again!
