Q: What’s the difference between boating and yachting?
A: Boating is fixing your boat in exotic locations. Yachting is paying someone else to fix your boat in exotic locations.
One of the many side benefits for me of our trip along America’s Great Loop is the vast amount of experience I have gained cleaning, repairing, replacing parts, and generally getting to know our boat.
I knew I could find material for the replacement tiedown, but it took me a couple of months to finally visit a canvas shop, describe what I was trying to make, and get a strip of vinyl material. After two attempts and some wasted vinyl and snaps, this small task is now finished.
As Scottish author Kenneth Grahame (1859–1932) said, “There is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.”
Somebody hurry up and get down there to visit….Rick is running out of blog material!

Although our vessel at 48 ft qualifies as a yacht, my usual attire of jean shorts and T-shirt while on the water definitely says boating and not yachting! 😂
