Great Loop: Places or People?

Happy Sunday from Marathon, Florida!

Since September we have met hundreds of people in various stages of their Great Loop adventure: planning, enjoying, fondly remembering, and planning for another Loop. We often are asked “What have you enjoyed most?” Our usual answer is THE PEOPLE – from such a variety of home towns and countries, backgrounds, and life-experiences, with such different perspectives and goals, but all sharing the temporary objective of seeing a large part of America from its waterways. We have learned from each other and made good friends. But…we have also thoroughly enjoyed THE PLACES – the opportunity and challenge of entering a new harbor, walking or bike riding or Ubering into the town, finding its grocery and marine supply stores, sampling its restaurants, and getting to know our new temporary home.

Today I came across an excellent overview of the places on the Great Loop. George and Stacy Sass completed the Great Loop in 2003 from their home port of Annapolis, MD. I appreciated this overview of the places on the Great Loop. I hope you enjoy it as well.

George and Stacy Sass cruised the Great Loop on their Downeast boat “Sawdust”, a beautiful Thomas Point 43 that merges New England lobsterboat design with contemporary performance, comfort and safety. Lovely lines!
