The Drummond Island Yacht Haven feels like a summer camp from generations ago. Simple, practical buildings. Low waterside sheds house small slips for fishing boats and boats used to commute to nearby North Channel Islands. Visitors come here year after year. Sailboats and powered cruising boats use DIYH to refuel, fill water tanks and provision for trips to and from the North Channel of Lake Huron.
The Huron Jewel, a 78 foot gaff-rigged schooner built by local volunteers, is moored at the end of our dock and offers day sails, windjammer cruises, and B ‘n B sails.
A quiet place in North Country where time stood still. Clear water. Simple rhythms. Sunrise, sunset, boating, fishing. It is a breath of fresh air.
That is a beautiful schooner, Rick. Tom and I just got back from Maine and saw many like that. We saw a beautiful one in Bar Harbor with orange sails.
