PostLoop

Since crossing our wake (finishing our 6,800 mile voyage on America’s Great Loop), we have enjoyed good times with family and friends in the Midwest, and I have been in Indiana a few times for work.

Radian Journey spent a few days with us in Holland.

We plan to keep R&R for at least another season. To keep her in top condition, she needs 1000 hour maintenance work, a buff & wax, possibly new bottom paint, and a few other minor repairs. We look to Yacht Basin in Holland for this work, having been satisfied with their maintenance and navigation electronics installations in 2019 before we left on the Loop.

We also decided on a few upgrades. First, I promoted the Garmin autopilot controller and a second Garmin multi-gauge to the main dashboard, and demoted the Volvo Penta engine gauges to the lower dashboard. Critical depth/speed/etc. information and autopilot controls will be right at the helm, while the engine gauges still will be visible on the lower dash.

We also plan to use Holland area contractors to replace worn-out isinglass, bridge and cockpit mats, and interior carpet. Contractors are very busy, so some of these replacements will be winter projects.

With the Great Loop behind us, we will not post as often, but we send best wishes to all!

    1. Thank you Sue! It has been a wonderful adventure and we are so thankful to have had the opportunity. The memories will last us a lifetime. Glad to have you along on the trip!

  2. Thanks R & R, totally enjoyed your exploits, I would love to do what you have accomplished, The wife Not so much, however we only have a 20 ft. bass boat. So I was thinking maybe a mini loop, consisting of just the Erie Canal from Lake Erie Eastward for just a lazy day cruise. I am sure there will be B&B’s some where we might spend the nite . Anyway, thanks for the Blog…….William aka “Capt. Scully”

  3. Rick, it sure has been a wonderful adventure for you and Rhonda! Thanks for sharing the beautiful photos and details of your loop trip. We enjoyed all of it.

    1. Thank you Barbara! It certainly has been the adventure of a lifetime. Rick and I will be basking in the memories for years. 🙂

  4. We used to live in ST. Joe, Michigan when Hubby was an Air Traffic Controller, Loved that Eastern Shore of the Lake and we made several trips to the Holland Area. Bill even tried to drive our 40 ft. Motorhome down the main street that leads to the beach. Wow that was tight, especially since we were towing our Vacation Car behind us. We totally enjoy reading about your travels and looking at your pictures. Bill has gotten the bug and is in the market for a Loop Boat. Plan is to begin in the late Summer and miss the Hurricane season in the Gulf and Florida. Best to you guys, have a great Fall and Winter. Stay safe and Hugs, William (Bill) aka Capt. Scully, and Shirley (actually she will be the Admiral of the new fleet. LOL
